Windows 7 Slow Shutdown Problem Fix

If you experience windows 7 slow shutdown, then you will need to find out what the cause of the problem so that you can make it much faster and easier to use. Sometimes the computer simply won’t shut down at all. This creates many problems as the camera will simply stop responding as soon as you try to shut it down.

Virus Scanners

The first thing that you should check is whether or not windows 7 is trying to run a virus scan when shutting down. This will create all sorts of problems and make your computer much slower to shut down. Try uninstalling virus scanners to see whether or not this fixes the issue.

Nagging

Windows 7 can be very slow to shut down because it warns you that a lot of applications first need to be closed. This is a major problem which irritates a large number of computer users. If this is causing you grief then you can turn it off by using the group policy editor. To open this click on start, and enter gpedit.msc and then press the enter key.

When you are here you can then select the computer configuration, administrative templates, system, shutdown and options. Then it is possible to turn off the automatic termination of applications. This will get rid of the nag screens.

Registry Edit

You can also try speeding up the shutdown process by editing the registry. To do this click Start, and type in regedit. Then find the key which is labeled HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then click System, CurrentControlSet and choose Control. Then double click on the WaitToKillServiceTimeout key. Change the value to speed up shutdown by entering a lower number.

Defragment

You should regularly run a defragmenter of your computer’s hard drive. This will help to make it much quicker for the computer to shut down since it will make the files stored on your computer much more organized.

Windows Registry

There are many different registry problems which can cause your computer to be very slow to shut down. You will need to use a registry scanner to search for the threats and make them much quicker and more reliable. This should also make your computer shut down much quicker.
