The windows registry is a very important component of the windows operating system. This is so important, that without the registry your computer wouldn’t be able to boot or work at all. Whenever the windows registry is updated there is a risk of various errors. All of the registry changes are made automatically and can cause problems.

Whenever your computer does anything it will also search through the registry to find out exactly what it should do. This controls every aspect of your computer and affects how it works. So to make Windows 7 performance tweaks you need to tweak the registry.

Speeding up the Registry

You will need to understand some basics about how the windows registry works so that you can make it much faster. The registry is segmented into five main sections which are all called hives. These hives appear like folders on your computer’s hard drive.

The five hives in the registry include:

HKEY Current User

The current user hive stores all of the settings and information which is used to control settings for the current user logged into the computer.

HKEY Classes Root

The classes root key contains information about file associations for the entire computer.

HKEY Local Machine

The Local machine key contains settings for your entire computer. This includes settings for the hardware and software on your computer.

HKEY Current Config

The Current Config key includes the information which is used as soon as your computer boots up. This information will be erased and replaced when your computer boots up.

HKEY Users

The user’s key contains information about all of the users on your computer.

Speeding up the Registry

In order to speed up your computers registry you will need to use a registry scanner. Registry scanners can be used to scan through the registry and taking a look at any problems to put an end to them.
